Went to Chinatown to see the Chinese New Year Celebration Festival and Parade.   It was a gorgeous day.  We couldn’t ask for any better weather then what we have today, considering with all the snow and cold temperature we have been getting lately.  Will be posting the images tomorrow…  but here’s my Day 8 for the 354 Lunar Project.

New Boda Bag Review | Boda V3 Plum Weatherproof Lens Bag

Filed under Gears,Personal Photography,Product Reviews . Tags: , , , , , — • Written by johnlo February 19, 2010 @ 12:21 pm

I was so excited when the Boda V3 Plum Weatherproof Lens Bag arrived.   My first impression was “wow”.    I used to own the Boda Dry (2nd Generation).  I like it a lot then.    But after heavy use, some threads were beginning to not looking good.   After using it for a year and when Jim Garner announced the Pre-Ordering of the V3, I had to jump on it.  I’m not a fan keeping unuse stuff laying around the house.  So once I found a buyer for the Dry I was on my way pre-ordering the V3.

I’ve been carrying the V3 with me everyday since day one.   So far I am loving it.  Here’s a small list of pros and cons.

Pros:
1) Weatherproof – I took it out when NYC got hit with the snow storm last week…  everything inside was dry.   Next time when I visit my mom.  I’m gonna use their water hose and see how that will handle it. HAHA!
2) Built quality, the material use are just amazing.
3) the bottom of the bag has 4 little legs that keep the bag up when laying it down.
4) The side pockets are much better then the Dry version.
5) LOVE the Plum color interior.  So much easier to find things on the bottom.

Cons:
1) Heavier comparing to Dry
2) A bit too big for me..  actually just a few inches longer in height then the Dry.
3) The shoulder pad is thick for my shoulder and body…  but so far seem to be OK after daily use.
4) Not a huge fan where the retractable len cloth is located.  But it will do for now.  It’s not like I need to use it every minute.

Well so far that’s all I can think of… I’m sure I will have more to say as time moves on.  I haven’t use it on an all day shooting event yet (like Wedding), so really i can’t say much.  But overall I am extremely happy with the bag.  A huge improvement from the Dry.

What was inside the Boda V3 over the weekend?  Here’s a list:
1) Canon 70-200 f2.8L IS w/ hood
2) Canon 24-70 f2.8L w/ hood
3) Canon 5D Mark II  (the camera was attached to the 24-70)
4) Four Pull-up diapers for Dylan and some baby wipes.
5) Dylan’s Sippy Bottles (one with Organic Whole Milk, the other with water).

Yes, beside being a lens bag, you can also use it as a diaper bag.  hehehe!

Thanks Jim for making such and Awesome len bag.  And thank you for the Boda baseball cap.    I think it’s the best baseball cap made I ever put on my head.   Thank you.   Hope to see more products from you.

Armin DeFiesta has an awesome video review of the Boda V3 Lens Bag. Go check it out.

Here’s some pictures of the lens bag.  Sorry I don’t have one with me wearing the bag.   Maybe next time.

Day 4: Once in a while, especially when the weather is nice, I like to take a walk up to Central Park during my lunch hour.   It’s amazing how different and pretty each time I am there.    I still remember the last time shooting a Central Park Wedding with my good friend, William Eng.  So Pretty!!!!

Day 5: “7th Ave Dry Subway Standpipe”

Fact:  I love hazel nut coffee from Dunkin’ Donut,

Happy Chinese New Year | Year of the Tiger

恭喜發財  “Gung Hay Fat Choy” everyone. The Year is 4707.  Hope you all have a Prosperous and Healthy Year of the Tiger!      It’s gonna be a good year…   I can feel it.   WOOHOO!!!

Day 1:

Day 2:

If you see me I will be sure to give you some 利是 “lai see” red envelope…   hehehe!

Just a quick note, I’m gonna be doing the 365 Project, but instead starting at the beginning of the year. I started on Chinese New Year day.  And to be a little different from everyone else,  my 365 project will be based on the lunar calendar…  that means it will not be 365 days, but instead 354.37 days…  (round off to 354).  And I am calling it “354 Lunar Project”.    The above two images are Day 1 and Day 2.

Fact:  I love eating noodles.

New York City Blizzard 2010

Filed under Family,Personal Photography . Tags: , , , , , , , , , — • Written by johnlo February 10, 2010 @ 3:37 pm

Yesterday New York City announced the closing of the public school for today due to the snow storm.  This announcement was made before 11am yesterday….  that’s 12 hours before the snow even reach into our city.  HAHAH!  Nice!!!

My wife wasn’t the only one who didn’t have to get up for work today.   Our NY and NJ office are closed today too.    So got up early, made some coffee and  some yummy blueberry pancakes for the wife and kid.   Then we headed out to Prospect Park.  It was windy and cold.  We didn’t stay out too long.  Here’s a few shot I managed to get before heading back home.    They say the Eye of the Storm is not even here yet….   Our Mayor is still deciding if school should be cancel or not  tomorrow.     Gonna try to head back out later tonight for more pictures and to clean/shovel the car, in case school is open so wife can go to work.

On a different note…  I took my new Boda V3 Plum Lens bag out for a weatherproof test.   So far so good.   and  I am loving my new Black Rapid R-Strap RC7….   will be reviewing those later the week or next.
